Artist Statement:

I find the process of designing and creating objects for daily use to be full of possibilities. I believe that the exploration of these possibilities is what makes my work unique and forms the basis of a constantly changing line of wares that are meant to be as one-of-a-kind as the households they eventually inhabit. In addition to being entirely handcrafted, these pots are made in the spirit that each of us who live and work at Heartwood strive to apply to our day to day affairs “that service is love in action”. I hope that my pots will serve you well.

George Lea began making pottery as a teenager at a community art center in the Midwest. His love of the craft led him to major in art in college. After completing his undergraduate studies, he traveled widely and worked with many leading contemporary artists. His experience as a studio potter, gallery owner, resident artist, and arts administrator led him to his current position as the Art Programs Manager at Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary. He hopes to recreate many of the opportunities afforded to him, through this position, as a service to others. Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary is delighted to offer his ceramics through our on-line store, proceeds from the sales of this work benefit the further development of our art programs.
