Join Sam and guest teacher, Heidi Bourne, for a summer dive into the heart practices, the Divine Abodes, as taught by the Buddha. Held at Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary, in Garberville, Ca, where we will practice in silence and be held by the beauty of the Redwoods. Guest Yoga teacher, TBA.

This is a 5 day, 4-night retreat with food and lodging being included in the price for the retreat. We will practice meditation, walking and yoga, in noble silence, with an optional 45 minute talking period, following dinner, each evening. Noble silence allows us to truly turn inward, without the many distractions of the busy world that we live in. Why incline toward the heart? The wisdom of the heart holds space for those difficult times when we begin to witness the deeper and deeper truths of our experience, through meditation. The heart/mind (Citta) helps us to stay, to just sit right down and invite all experiences to be present, with equanimity. Compassion (Karuna) and Forgiveness practices, offer support with different flavors of love. The practice of loving-kindness points us towards deeper compassion, understanding, and freedom from suffering. The boundless heart can hold and heal all things!

The retreat will include:

  • Daily heart practice meditations while sitting, walking and practicing yoga. ( Yoga will be accessible for ALL yogis)

  • Daily schedule of practice will be in 30-minute increments, with the option to sit longer periods, at any time.

  • Dhamma talks

  • Individual meetings to discuss practice

  • Shared lodging

  • Fresh, simple, organic meals

  • Daily Yoga in the form of gentle stretching, Yin yoga, and Restorative yoga.

  • Sound Bath on the final evening of practice

Retreat Schedule: (subject to small changes)

  • June 10th arrival between 4pm-5pm. Dinner will be served, practice after dinner

  • Daily practice between 6 am and 8 pm. All meditations are optional, however, yogis are encouraged to attend all sits and Dhamma talks.

  • June 14th final practice, breakfast and closing session. Leaving Heartwood by 11 am.

Pricing:

Sliding Scale of $875-$950. Dana is always welcome, but not expected.

$100 discount for those that register and pay in full, by March 1st!

Young Persons Scholarship: Thanks to generous offerings of Dana, there is one scholarship available for a youth, aged 17-25. The retreat cost, if you are offered the scholarship, is $350. Please email Sam if interested in this awesome opportunity.

Heidi Bourne: From a diverse and extensive background in small business, teaching, nursing, and wilderness exploration, Heidi offers a comprehensive and specialized perspective of mindfulness practice, its significance and applications. She has been a dedicated practitioner in the Insight Meditation tradition since 2003.
